We now use an innovative food tray that is made from natural wood fibres, sourced from FSC certified and renewable Nordic forests. For every tree that is taken out, three more are planted – making it more than sustainable, it’s carbon positive.
Unlike other products on the market, which are either non-recyclable, non-ovenable or non-compostable, our ready meal trays can be recycled and are also certified for home composting (including the film) – perfect for those veggies growing in your garden!
These highly functional trays are both microwave and oven safe up to 180 degrees celsius!
Why is this important to us?
Ever since we started Packed Kitchen and began cooking tasty meals for our family and friends, we knew that we had to be sustainable. Certainly no plastic pots or bags!
We believe it’s up to businesses to lead by example when it comes to sustainability. We need to lead by example and make it as easy as possible for you, the customer, to make sustainable choices. That’s why we’re passionate about helping you make informed decisions, and ensuring our packaging is as eco-friendly as possible.
We definitely struggled at first, trying to find a solution that was both suitable for transporting food and able to be reheated.
But we’re glad we stuck with it and have proudly been using fully compostable trays for 2 years already – putting us way ahead of other meal prep companies.
Not one to rest on our laurels, we decided to up our game once again. We’ve invested in new and improved food trays that will allow us to ship our fabulous fare all across the country!
The packaging is still 100% home compostable, but the sealed trays means our meals stay fresh for longer and are now spill-proof – hurray!
